At Eagle

If you haven’t checked out the Yukon Quest Facebook site yet, you should, because some priceless commentary is being posted there:

“The four leaders are sitting in the Eagle checkpoint eating and arguing over who is going to go first. Lance asked Hugh if he has ever been able to say he was first out of Eagle. Hugh said no, have you? Lance: Yeah, a few times. Hugh: How’d that work for you? Lance: Pretty darn good, actually. Hugh: Well then m…aybe you should lead out again. The banter was continuous…they are all pretty funny guys.”

“Hugh suggested since they were probably all going to do the same thing into Dawson, they should just all go out and start putting booties on dogs and go together. The other mushers took that opportunity to take a bite of food, look down at the trail report and picked lint off their jackets and avoided eye contact. These boys have some tricks up their sleeves.”

“Wow, what a crazy time at the checkpoint. Got back just in time to see Zack’s team charge out. Within 7 minutes, Lance, Hugh and Hans had all left the Eagle checkpoint on their way up American Summit. Right as Lance and Hugh were checking out, Ken Anderson checked in and there were three teams in the checkout area barking and carrying on.”
